Senior Celebration Volunteers Needed

The senior celebration, to be held 6/6/2008 from 10:00pm - 6:00am, is in need of parent volunteers to help run the event.  It's a great way for senior parents as well as junior parents (you'll be doing this next year!) to get involved.  If you are interested in volunteering for a 2 hour shift, please email DARLA.ROESSLER@pflugervilleisd.net  This is a great event for our outgoing seniors and we need your support!

Also, on 5/3, the senior celebration committee will be having a garage sale.  If you have items you want to donate, please have them up to the Admin building (in front of Pflugerville H.S.) at 7:00am that morning.

Thank you!

Note from Mr. Gundersen

Attention Hawk Band Students and Boosters:

What an AMAZING trip! I hope all had as much fun as I did in Orlando! I think it has taken me 48 hours to catch up on my sleep. We certainly packed a LOT into five short days (Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, THE PARADE, the beach, Downtown Disney, Islands of Adventure, and lots of time with friends). Thanks for representing Pflugerville with CLASS on this trip.

Parents and Students, you can access photos three ways:

1) Our photographer, Dawn Poole, took photos of the parade and our kids on the trip. Information will be posted shortly on how to obtain these photos. BEST OPTION.

2) Disney took photos of the parade that are available online. You can access these photos online by going to DisneyPhotoPass.com and enter "WDWC - 7M9G - 9M73 - K4Q9" to access our photos. You will need to register (FREE) to access these photos.

3) Your kid's pictures. Who knows what you will get there! HA!

Hope you had a GREAT trip!!!! Enjoy the rest of your spring break.

Mr. G

Staying Healthy

As mentioned by Mr. Gundersen at our first booster meeting of the year (Tuesday, August 7, 2007), we would like to try to get all of our band members to be able to have a heart screening. The Heart Hospital of Austin offers a program for young people ages 15-18 who are involved in strenuous activities the ability to have a screening for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (sudden cardiac arrest) for a $15 donation fee. More information regarding this program can be found here.

Please remember , it is important that all students involved in strenuous activities try to follow certain proceedures to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Below are suggestions that all band members should try to follow to make sure the are able to stay healthy not only during the hot days of band camp, but also during the entire school year.

• Sleep. Be Rested.
• Proper Diet. Avoid fried and processed foods, and carbonated drinks.
• Hydration. Lots of water or sport drinks – more that you think you need.
• Multivitamin – taken with your breakfast which includes at least 3 of 4 food groups.
• Wash Your Hands frequently and avoid rubbing your eyes or mouth with your hands.
• Stretch and Exercise, especially on our “off” days.
• Stay Positive. Mental health is key to your physical health (and vice versa).
