The Central Texas Preview

The Central Texas Preview is the premier early season marching contest in Central Texas. The Hendrickson Hawk Marching Band, in conjunction with the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA, www.usbands.org), is proud to host this annual event. USSBA is a division of Youth Education in the Arts (www.yea.org), an organization dedicated to improving students at all levels through their participation in the arts.

As an early season marching contest, the Central Texas Preview provides directors the opportunity to obtain an early assessment of their marching programs. This can be quite important to directors for the purpose of preparing for later season marching competitions or as preparaton for UIL competition.

By working with the USSBA, the Cental Texas Preview allows bands to be judged in separate categories in a manner similar to their UIL division. Thus band directors get a better feel for where they stand relative to other bands regardless of UIL divisions. Further information regarding the USSBA and their philosophy can be found here.

The Cental Texas Preview is traditionally held on the last Saturday in September. For information regarding how bands can enter this contest, please contact Garth Gundersen, HHS Band Director.

For bands attending the contest, a map can be found here which helps to show where to find Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas. Another map, found here, can help with the relative layout of the HHS facility. Specific information about the contest, including performance times for bands and scores, can be found on the USSBA website.
